October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

In observance of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Maverick County and the Texas Association of Counties County Information Resources Agency (TAC CIRA) is highlighting information that will help keep the data and networks used by our employees as well as the our community secure.

Unique, long and complex passwords help keep your accounts safe. Strong password best practices include:

  • Never use the same password for multiple accounts. After one password is cracked, hackers will use it to attempt to access other accounts.
  • Create passwords using a mixture of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols.
The more characters a password has, the longer it takes to crack!
  • Avoid using relatable information that a social engineer could use to guess your password. Information such as anniversaries and birthdays, family names or information pertaining to your job, particularly your county name and job title, can be easily decoded.
